Virgin Media

Virgin Media is a Telecommunications provider based in the U.K. Over the course of three years, my work was focused on delivering improvements to the ‘buying’ journey. I also helped to implement improved ways of working across the design team.

Bundle Comparison

Virgin Media’s product offering relied on bundling different TV, broadband, landline and mobile phone packages together, which meant we often had to present lots of complex and technical information. Users frequently found this information difficult to understand and struggled to identify which product best suited their needs.

The solution was to create a reusable component that made comparing different product offerings quick and easy. The introduction of this component saw a significant increase in conversion, delivering increased revenue for the business.

Design system

As a senior member of the design team at Virgin Media, I was part of a group of designers responsible for ensuring consistency of design implementation and improved ways of working across the design function.

As a group, we defined our Online Media Guidelines (OMG), which ultimately went on to form the basis of Virgin Media’s Design System – utilising zeroheight to create a single source of truth for designers and developers. We also introduced our approach user centred design as we adopted agile ways of working.

Sticky’ component

As part of continuous improvements to the new customer journey, we introduced a new ‘sticky’ component that presented users with key product information and a prominent call to action, wherever they were on a particular page.

We tested the concept on a single product page initially, in order to validate its value to users, before rolling it out across all other product pages. The introduction of this saw a dramatic uplift in conversion across both desktop and mobile, providing a significant yearly revenue benefit for the business.
